For historical information, Wikipedia has an article on Elefant.

Elefant (and the earlier Ferdinand) is a German tank destroyer.

Description[]

The Ferdinands are tank destroyers converted from chassis of Porsche's unsuccessful proposal of Tiger I. They mount a powerful 8.8 cm PaK 43/2 L/71 gun and 200mm frontal plate, boasting very high firepower and frontal defense. However, the Ferdinands have no machine guns, making them very vulnerable to enemy infantry. It is also not very mobile, making it hard to escape from overwhelming attacks.

The surviving Ferdinands are later modified and become Elefants. The added MG 34 in frontal mount gives the tank destroyer the much needed ability to fend off enemy infantry.

The Ferdinands can be found on maps set on the Eastern Front in July 1943, whereas the Elefants can be found from 1944 onward.
