For historical information, Wikipedia has an article on FM 24/29 light machine gun.

The FM 24/29 light machine gun is a French machine gun.

Description[]

The Fusil-mitrailleur Modèle 1924 M29, commonly known as the FM 24/29 or the MAC 24/29, was developed to replace the problematic World War I-era Chauchat. The light machine gun was modified to the M29 variant in 1929 to accept the new cartridge in order to avoid accidental loading of the German rounds. This became the standard light machine gun for the French forces throughout World War II, with large quantities captured by German forces for their own use. The FM 24/29 would continue to see service for many more years after World War II; the most noticeable user was the National Gendarmerie, which finally retired the gun in 2006.

In BattleGroup42, the FM 24/29 gun is available as the primary weapon for the French, Free French, and Vichy French assault class. Although historically inaccurate, it is the primary weapon for the Chinese assault class as a placeholder for the similar Czech ZB vz. 26 light machine gun. Furthermore, the gun is also featured in some maps as the primary weapon for German assault class, particularly those set early in the war at the Eastern Front.
