The Gewehr 98 is a rifle of German origin.

The Gewehr 98 was part of the development in the long line of Mauser rifles. It was the primary infantry weapon of the German army in World War I, and despite having been replaced by the Karabiner 98k in World War II, the rifle continued to see service by other nations in various derivatives, including China in the form of Type 24 rifle.

In Battlegroup42 the Gewehr 98 is the primary weapon of the Chinese rifleman class, engineer class, and sniper class for most scenarios set in the first half of the war. It is also the primary weapon for Yugoslav rifleman and sniper class. The sniper class has access to a scope-mounted version, whereas the rifleman class has access to a bayonet as well as a grenade launcher.
