The Lebel modèle 1886 is a French rifle.
The Lebel modèle 1886 or Lebel Model 1886 rifle was the first military firearm to use smokeless powder ammunition, which was revolutionary at the time as it allowed greater range and flatter trajectory than black powder ammunition. The M93 variant was an improved version of the rifle, which had a modified bolt head to divert escaping gas away from the user in case of a ruptured cartridge case. Although new successor rifles were developed, the slow modernisation of French equipment meant the older rifles like the Lebel and the Berthier soldiered on to World War II.
In Battlegroup42 the Lebel rifle is the primary weapon for the French rifleman class and sniper class. The rifleman class also has access to bayonet and rifle grenade, whereas the sniper class has scope attached to the rifle for sharpshooting. The Free French and Vichy French also share the same weapon, with the exception of the Free French forces in Northwest European theatre.
