Description[]
The Sdkfz 222 was the second vehicle in the Leichter Panzerspähwagen (light armoured reconnaissance vehicle) series, and it was an improvement over the earlier Sdkfz 221 with the addition of a 2 cm KwK 30 L/55, with later models upgraded to 2 cm KwK 38 L/55. Although common in the early phases of the war, the Sdkfz 222 was later replaced by halftracks and heavier eight-wheeled armoured cars in frontline service, which offered better off-road capabilities. A small number were also sold to China prior to World War II, and they saw combat against the Japanese forces.
The Sdkfz 222 in BattleGroup42 is armed with the improved Kwk 38 autocannon and an MG 34 in coxial mount, which are effective against light vehicles and infantry respectively. The guns also have high elevation, allowing it to attack enemies from higher position or even enemy aircraft. Its armour is thin, and the open-topped turret renders the operator vulnerable to fire, but the vehicle's speed and mobility make it an efficient reconnaissance vehicle, potentially outmanoeuvring unsuspecting enemies.
It can be found in maps set in the early stages of the war that Germany and China participate.
