The Shokaku-class aircraft carrier is a Japanese aircraft carrier.

Commissioned in August and September 1941, the two ships of the Shokaku-class appeared just in time for the beginning of the war in the Pacific, representing the latest and most advanced carrier design of the Japanese Navy. Shokaku and her sister Zuikaku were both able to carry 84 planes and always operated together during the first month of the war between the Japanese Empire and the United States: They formed the main part of the fleet that launched the attack on Pearl Harbor, their planes sunk the USS Lexington and damaged USS Yorktown in the Battle of the Coral Sea and both ships participated in the battles around the Solomon islands. Because of the battle damage the ships received in the course, both were in repair when the Battle of Midway happens. They faced their fate later in 1944: Shokaku exploded three hours after being hit by torpedos of the submarine USS Cavalla off Saipan in June 1944. Zuikaku was sunk by US carrier bombers off Kap Engano in Oktober 1944.

In Battlegroup42, the aircraft carrier has four twin 12.7cm Type 89 dual-purpose guns, which have two firing modes - as anti-aircraft guns or as naval artillery. It also has four twin 25mm Type 96 anti-aircraft guns. It typically has Mitsubishi A6M Zero, Aichi D3A Val, and Nakajima B5N Kate spawned on the deck. Two Daihatsu-class landing craft also spawn on the rear of the carrier.

Both ships of the Shokaku-class, Shokaku and Zuikaku, appear in the mod. They can be found in maps such as 4201-Rabaul, 4203-Battle of Java, and 4205-Battle of the Coral Sea.

  • The Shoukaku-class is modified from the original Battlefield 1942's Shōkaku model.
  • Soryu and Hiryu also share the same models as the Shokaku-class.
