The Type 99 rifle is a Japanese rifle.

The Type 99 of the Arisaka rifle series was developed as a successor to the Type 38 rifle. It was chambered for the newer and more powerful 7.7mm cartridge, which means it would share the same ammunition with the Type 99 light machine gun and Type 92 heavy machine gun. Despite the Japanese army's intention to fully replace the older service rifles with the Type 99, not all units received the new weapon, hence both Type 99 and the Type 38 would continue to see service until the end of the war.
In BattleGroup42 the Type 99 rifle is the primary weapon of the Japanese rifleman class, engineer class, and sniper class. The sniper class has access to a scope-mounted version, whereas the rifleman class has access to a bayonet as well as a grenade launcher.

Due to lack of Type 38 rifle and Type 97 sniper rifle, the Type 99 and its sniper equivalent will serves as a placeholder for the Japanese in pre-1939 Second Sino-Japanese war maps.
